Commercial Audio-Visual
Conference rooms, displays, background music and digital signage planned into commercial spaces and installed by licensed AV partners.
Overview
Commercial audio-visual work covers the systems a business uses every day: conference rooms with displays, cameras and microphones; background music and paging; digital signage in lobbies, menus and retail floors; and training or event spaces.
Most AV problems in commercial spaces come from coordination gaps – no backing behind a display, no power or data at the right height, a ceiling grid that conflicts with speakers, or no room for equipment. We plan AV with the reflected ceiling plan, furniture layout and electrical drawings so those conflicts are resolved on paper.
An appropriately licensed low-voltage contractor partner designs, installs and programs the AV systems. We schedule their rough-in and trim around ceilings, finishes and furniture, and keep the work aligned with your opening or move-in date.

How pricing works
Commercial AV is priced per project, by room and system: the number of conference spaces, displays, speakers and signage locations, the equipment selected and the programming required.
When AV is part of a build-out, the backing, power and pathways are carried in the construction scope and the systems are priced within the same project budget.
What changes the cost
- Number and type of rooms and AV zones
- Display sizes, projectors and video walls
- Conference camera and microphone systems
- Number of speakers and zones for background music
- Signage displays and media players
- Ceiling type and pathway complexity
- Programming and control requirements
If this work is part of a larger project, it’s priced within that project’s budget — please don’t add separate estimates together. Read the pricing guide.
Typical stages
Needs assessment
We review each room’s purpose, number of users and how presentations or calls will run.
AV design
The partner proposes equipment and layouts, coordinated with the ceiling, furniture and electrical plans.
Rough-in
Backing, boxes, floor boxes, cable and power are installed before walls and ceilings close.
Equipment installation
Displays, speakers and rack equipment are installed after finishes and ceiling tiles.
Programming and testing
Control systems are programmed and every room is tested with the actual devices staff will use.
Training and turnover
Staff are shown how to use the rooms, and documentation is handed over.
What affects the schedule
- Furniture layouts and display sizes need to be fixed before rough-in
- Ceiling grid and tile installation must be coordinated with speaker placement
- Display and equipment lead times
- Network and internet service must be active for programming and testing
- Opening dates and staff training times
Questions & answers
Can AV be installed after we move in?
It can, but it costs more and may disrupt operations. Installing backing, power and cable pathways during the build-out keeps later installation simple even if equipment is purchased later.
Do we need a dedicated equipment room?
Not always. Smaller offices can use a rack in a closet; larger installations benefit from a ventilated room or shared telecom space. The partner sizes this to the system.
How do background music speakers work with a drop ceiling?
Speakers designed for ceiling grids drop into tile locations. Spacing is planned so coverage is even and fixtures, sprinkler heads and diffusers are not in conflict.
Will the system work with the conferencing software we already use?
Most conference room equipment supports common platforms. Tell us what you use so the partner can confirm compatibility during design.
